Steps to Take if You’ve Been Charged

If you’re charged with a crime in Mississippi, you should immediately seek legal representation and remain silent when questioned by police. You’re not obliged to explain yourself or make excuses. Recent changes in Mississippi law have made a provision for the non-adjudication of first-time DUI offenders. You will be monitored and go through a probationary period, but at the end of the probationary period, your DUI will expunged and there would be no official record of it unless you are charged with a second DUI within five years. In addition, the MS Dept. of Public Safety may suspend your license for at least three months upon conviction—and that’s separate from the immediate administrative suspension of your license if you refuse to submit to testing when you’re arrested.
